Lighting Innovation Meets Nature at 385 Bourke Street
Introduction
How do you light up a lush green wall without letting the lighting system overshadow its beauty? That was the challenge we embraced at 385 Bourke Street, Melbourne, and we’re excited to share how we brought this vision to life in collaboration with Fytogreen Australia and Aston Consulting.
The project required lighting that delivered targeted illumination to the green wall while blending seamlessly into the space, however the key technical challenge was the requirement for the lighting system to create 𝐧𝐨 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 with the greenwall, which is a common issue created by tracklights and other lighting systems typically used for this application.
The Solution:
To overcome this challenge, we custom designed a specialized growlight fixture – Thrive – and designed a system around it.
The final solution features:
- 17m of Thrive comprised of 3 separate rows of multiple seamlessly interconnecting pieces
- Each row had a different lens and internal tilt angle to maximise light output and uniformity on the green wall – Sunlike 5000K LEDs (>95 CRI) with high-efficiency, individually lensed optics, delivering 5500 lumens per metre and achieving 3000-6000 lux on the green wall.
- Complemented by 40m of diffused standard diffused linear systems directly in front of the greenwall
- The system is powered by Digilin’s CV DALI drivers and repeaters, ensuring exceptional efficiency and durability.
This project highlights the power of tailored lighting solutions and collaboration to achieve something truly extraordinary. We’re proud to see our Thrive fixture transforming spaces like 385 Bourke Street into living, breathing works of art.
