UQ is a prestigious university and ranks in the world’s top 50. The oldest part of the university is the beautiful sandstone “Great Court”. As part of a significant sustainability initiative and for the simple practicality factor of reducing maintenance, UQ wanted to upgrade the 65 cloister lights in the great court with colour change LED and approached Digilin for the project.
There were several critical challenges. These heritage listed buildings and the fittings were unable to be altered in any way apart from the lightsources themselves. The coloured outputs also needed to massive to achieve pedestrian safety levels, and there was no ability to run additional cabling to the luminaires for control.
Digilin designed and manufactured unique RGBW tower-shaped LED modules to replace the existing halogen lamps while leaving the original spherical diffusers untouched. As there was power was supplied to the fittings and it was not possible to cut the sandstone to run additional lines for control, Casambi bluetooth drivers were integrated into the modules to provide control over the fixture’s RGBW outputs. The luminaires deliver over 3000lm, ensuring that even the coloured outputs are achieving the required light levels for public safety.
